THE PASOLINI CASE

Who needs to kill an artist? This question forms the starting point for “The Pasolini Case”, a play created to mark the 50th anniversary of the murder of the influential Italian filmmaker, poet and writer Pier Paolo Pasolini, which will be commemorated in 2025. The play seeks to explore the complex web of events surrounding his death, linking them to his role as a socially committed artist, his poetics and his political ideals. The production is a documentary theatre piece featuring visual projections and music, in which the three performers (two male actors and one female actor) immerse us in Pasolini’s intimate and controversial world. The play delves into his struggles, political ideals, artistic explorations and the unsolved mystery surrounding his tragic death.

The play features an original dramaturgy that seeks not only to honour Pasolini’s life and cultural and artistic legacy, but also to provoke reflection on issues that still resonate today, such as censorship, freedom of expression, and the dark side of power in society. Furthermore, the play offers an insight into the complex post-war period in Italy, the so-called “Anni di piombo” (Years of Lead), State terrorism, the roots of the attacks and the rise of capitalism.
