PLANCTON
STORIES OF WANDERERS
PLANCTON, from the Greek πλαγκτόν (wanderer, roamer) is a show about wanderers.
Like plankton, they cannot halt their movement and traverse land and sea in search of personal and artistic fulfilment. On stage, the three ‘wandering’ actors move, driven and drawn by art in its various forms: theatre, music and the circus. But they also portray characters who are wanderers for reasons intrinsic to their culture, such as gypsies and desert nomads. Alternating between dreamlike and naturalistic, comic and dramatic moments, the actors slip in and out of their characters, travelling through space and time, bringing to life distant worlds that cross the threshold between reality and the imaginary. The set design and props are both essential and evocative: suitcases of different materials, sizes and origins. Each one contains a story, an image, a secret to be discovered. These suitcases, which form the central thread of the show, will be transformed in their everyday use, taking on new forms and new meanings, guiding the actors and the audience through distant and evocative places. The poetic imagery is accompanied by musical instruments such as the violin, the transverse flute and the accordion, faithful companions to the actors throughout the entire journey. In addition to live music, the work draws on various art forms such as Commedia dell’Arte, singing and poetry.
